Junie Désil Chosen for Poetry in Transit 2025/2026

We are thrilled that the talented and insightful Junie Désil has been selected as one of the authors for this year’s Poetry in Transit program! Keep your eyes peeled on your commute around the lower mainland and the Greater Victoria area for Désil’s evocative poem “he has beautiful flowering trees” from her new collection allostatic load. With great honesty and adroitness, allostatic load invites readers to hold the vulnerability and resilience required to navigate deep healing in a world that is inflamed and consequently inflames us. Relatable yet personal, this collection looks at the exhaustion that comes when one’s chronic illness coincide with wider systemic injustice.

Poetry in Transit (brought to us by Books BC in partnership with TransLink and BC Transit) is a program that features the work of 10 BC poets on transit cars and shelters throughout the province. The program is now in its 29th year. A huge congratulations to this year’s excellent roster of authors!
