Just before Christmas, writer Pat Donnelly explored Montreal’s St-Léonard neighbourhood with resident playwright and Montreal aficionado, Steve Galluccio. His latest play, Les Chroniques de St-Léonard, runs from January 7 to February 7 at Théâtre Duceppe of Place des Arts and will be published in English by Talonbooks as The St. Leonard Chronicles in Spring 2015. Here is the opening of Donnelly’s article, which ran in the Montreal Gazette on December 18, 2014:
In retrospect, winter is probably not the best time to do a walking tour of St-Léonard. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my recent visit in the company of playwright Steve Galluccio.
His play, The St. Leonard Chronicles, which premièred at Centaur Theatre in the fall of 2013, is about to resurface at Théâtre Duceppe of Place des Arts – in French. Then it will tour Quebec, including a stop in St-Léonard in May 2015 at the posh Leonardo da Vinci Centre.
So it seemed like a good time to explore the neighbourhood and deepen my understanding of the context of the play that was such a huge hit at Centaur.
