This weekend, a dramatic dance-theatre production from Lata Pada’s Sampradaya Dance Company tells the story behind the Taj Mahal in a thrilling fusion of dance and theatre set during the Mughal dynasty in 17th-century India.
Toronto-born actress Lisa Ray (Deepa Mehta’s Bollywood/Hollywood and Water) joins Kabir Bedi (Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na and the James Bond film Octopussy) in this saga of political and familial strife, palace intrigue, and the undying devotion of emperor Shah Jahan to his wife, in whose memory the Taj Mahal was built.
Artistic direction and concept by Lata Pada, script by award-winning playwright John Murrell and directed by Tom Diamond, this Luminato commission explores the universal themes of power, passion, love and loss, as it celebrates the genesis of a stunning icon of architectural art.
