“Inheritance” and “The Piano Teacher” Named Finalists for Governor General's Awards

We are elated to announce that Inheritance by Daniel Arnold, Darrell Dennis, and Medina Hahn and The Piano Teacher by Dorothy Dittrich have been named finalists for the Governor General’s Awards for drama!

Inheritance is a choose-your-own-adventure style play offering multiple narrative outcomes depending on audience selections at crucial turning points in the story. This interactive work explores Indigenous land rights where viewers must actively participate in deciding to whom a piece of property will belong.

The Piano Teacher is a narrative about loss, love, connection, and the healing power of music. After the death of her husband and son, classical pianist Erin finds herself unable to interact with her instrument. When meets gentle, compassionate piano teacher Elaine, their deepening relationship reveals illuminating paths through the mire of grief for both parties, and their lives are forever changed.

We are proud and honoured that these two exceptional plays have made the shortlist. Congratulations to all of the finalists for this tremendous accomplishment!

The winners of the Governor General’s Awards will be announced on November 16. To see the complete list of finalists across categories, click here.
