Governor General’s Literary Award Winners on Healing

In times of turmoil, works that explore the uneven process of moving forward from events of grief may speak to us especially loudly. The English language winners of the 2022 Governor General’s Literary Awards are texts that are unafraid to delve into deep wounds and slow recoveries. As part of a new series, the 2022 Governor General’s Literary Award winners have been asked to write more on the theme of healing.

To that end, Talonbooks author and playwright extraordinaire Dorothy Dittrich composed a personal essay entitled When Big Healing Comes in Small Ways. Like her Governor General’s Literary Award winning play The Piano Teacher, this work of writing speaks about the restorative powers of connection and using one’s voice.
