Authors for Indies Day! Tomorrow (Saturday, May 2)

Authors and independent bookstores will do something wonderful together on Saturday, May 2, 2015. It’s called Authors for Indies Day. On this day, across Canada, authors will support independent bookstores by volunteering as guest book sellers.

Independent bookstores enrich our communities, providing gathering places where communities discover new authors, share favourite books, and expand their horizons. Store managers are thoughtful curators, bringing in books they know their customers will love. Our neighbourhoods would be much diminished without our local bookstores.

Authors for Indies Day celebrates the whole fabric of books in Canada – and a number of Talon authors will be out and about at bookstores near you!

In Vancouver, BC, find Daphne Marlatt at the People’s Co-op Bookstore on Commercial Drive between 10 AM and 2 PM. At 2 PM Marlatt will give a brief reading with fellow poets Fiona Lam and P.W. Bridgman.

Meredith Quartermain will read from her latest book, I, Bartleby, at the UBC Bookstore – see this tweet – on the University of British Columbia campus.

Also find dynamic duo Daniel Zomparelli and Dina Del Bucchia at Pulp Fiction Books on Main Street in Vancouver (at least, according to these enthusiastic tweets).

In Calgary, AB, poet Natalie Simpson author of Thrum, will be at Shelf Life Books from 4 PM until 6 PM.

So go on in to your local bookstore on Saturday. You may just meet an author. (Find your city on Booknet Canada’s Authors for Indies set of interactive maps!)
