100 Thousand Poets for Change: Vancouver, BC

September 24, 2011: 100,000 Poets for Change was a global event taking part in over 550 cities and 95 countries. In Vancouver, BC we put our words into action by cleaning up one of Vancouver’s dirtiest beaches, False Creek East, with a introductory statement by Fraser Riverkeeper Doug Chapman.

Later, poets read poems in resistance to the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline project, including a few from Christine Leclerc’s “Enpipe Line” project. The Carnegie Centre reading room was packed, and we had a blast.

Readers: Wil George, Stephen Collis, Alex Leslie, Garry Thomas Morse, Rita Wong, and Elaine Woo. Host: Mary Woodbury.

Sponsors: Word on the Street Vancouver, Fraser Riverkeeper, and Moon Willow Press
